Request for breakfast for Marines

I received the following email this past week and forgot to bring it up for discussion this morning.  If you are interested in helping with this week please let me know so that Robyn can make plans.   I will keep those who volunteeer informed and put you in touch with one another.   Thanks Stanthia

I serve on youth council helping to coordinate breakfast for the youth during Marines Week.  Yesterday at church, Lynn Berch suggested I contact you on behalf of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class to see if you all would be willing to volunteer to cook breakfast.

 

Marines Week is a 5-day intense training break from students normal lives.  A structure of discipline is set in place which includes Bible study, exercise, school work, cleaning, and some meal preparation.  The youth will spend the night at the church February 3 -6.    Currently, the New Beginnings SS Class, Discovery SS Class, and Wednesday morning Men's prayer group have volunteered to cook breakfast.  We are asking if the Pairs and Spares class would be willing to prepare and cook breakfast for the youth on Tuesday, February 5th.

 

You will need to plan for 25 youth, and breakfast will need to be served at 7:00 a.m. so the youth will have time to be transported to school.

Therefore, in addition to preparing the food you all need to plan to clean up the kitchen.  Everyone should be able to be done by 8:00 a.m.

 

The Discovery SS Class will be providing breakfast on Tuesday and they are cooking french toast.  New Beginnings class is preparing breakfast casseroles.  We hope that Pairs and Spares will consider this opportunity to serve the youth.

 

Please let me know as soon as possible so that we plan accordingly.

Dear Christian friends, We have been asked to forward this email and pray for Pastor Youcef.  URGENT PRAYER NEEDED for cancellation of execution for Pastor Youcef in IRAN This prayer chain is calling ALL Christians into action NOW on behalf of this Iranian pastor, who faces execution! Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani never practiced the Muslim faith and converted to Christianity at age 19, becoming a pastor later. But the courts say that since his mother and father were practicing Muslims, he must recant his Christian faith or die. So far, in three court appearances, he has refused to do so - RISKING EXECUTION AT ANY MOMENT. The Iranian Supreme Court often acts quickly in administering the death penalty. According to a report, when asked by judges to "repent," Youcef replied: "Repent, What should I return to? To the blasphemy that I had before my faith in Christ?" The judges replied: "To the religion of your ancestors - Islam." To which Yousef replied: "I cannot." It's time for the body of Christ to act, to pray, to plead for the life of our brother before Christ so that His servant may be spared. This is what you are asked/called to do. As soon as you receive this email, PRAY IMMEDIATELY. Forward to your church so that its members may all pray too. Then forward this PRAYER REQUEST to every CHRISTIAN you know so that they may pray also.   The Bible states, "If God is with us, who can stand against us."

P & S Happenings

Short, sweet, and to the point!

• Ann McDonald has broken ankle with surgery - keep her in your prayers. If I remember correctly she was leader this coming Tuesday for the Casserole Kitchen at First Pres; she may need additional help with this mission.
  
• New classroom this Sunday (11th) - Previously known as the 'Hand bell Room', third floor, east side of building.
• We will be studying II Corinthians, last half of chapter 1 and into chapter 2.
  
• Sunday School party - December 17th at John and Katie's.

Pairs and Spares- Are we moving on up?

Pairs and Spares has been offered a chance to move to the hand bell choir room on the 3rd floor of the sanctuary. Should we decide to move, our room will become the gathering area for children's Sunday School. They currently gather in the sanctuary.

What we know-

• The elevator works 'most of the time'.
• The hand bell choir would continue to use the room for practice during the week.
  
• The choir rehearsal room is down the hall from this classroom.
• The room is carpeted, has central heat and air, two ceiling fans, stained glass windows on the east side, frosted windows on the north side. Same style chairs we currently use with purple upholstery.
• Currently no dry erase/blackboard in this room but one can be added.
  
• Wi-fi should be available in this room.
  

Please look at this room if you get a chance before Sunday School this week. We will need to vote on this soon.

New Material for Pairs and Spares

SUNDAY SCHOOL material to begin July 3rd - The Way Back to Mayberry: Lessons from a Simpler Time by Joey Fann. After several studies from the Bible we voted to go with something lighter for a change. I know this book is available from Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.com. I was able to order a used book listed as 'very good condition' for $3.95 from Amazon. A new book from Barnes and Noble lists for approximately $11. You can actually look inside the book at Amazon and click on the book cover. Also available on Kindle (isn't technology wonderful?).
I don't work for Amazon but maybe I should!

GATHERING PLACE has been assigned to Pairs and Spares for July. I know for sure that we are short on volunteers for the 31st July. If you can help with this in any way please let me know.

MAYBERRY DINNER THEATER - August 6th at FUMC. Check with the office for tickets. Also, Anne McDonald is looking for help with serving the meal. Please contact her if you can help annesnell@gmail.com.

FUMC YARD SALE - August 26th and 27th - now accepting donations. Everything except shoes and clothing. Call the church office for details on dropping off items.

Lawsuits Among Believers
¹ If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? ² Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? ³ Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! ⁴ Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? ⁵ I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? ⁶ But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers! ⁷ The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? ⁸ Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters. ⁹ Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men ¹⁰ nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And that is what some of you were. Sexual Immorality

¹² “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. ¹³ You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. ¹⁴ By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. ¹⁵ Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! ¹⁶ Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body?
